Insurance
Use travel insurance that covers medical care, evacuation, and planned activities.
Heat and distance
Sun exposure and remoteness are major risks in desert and archaeological travel.
Current advice
Check official health and travel advisories shortly before departure.

Before travel

Discuss routine vaccinations, personal health conditions, and destination-specific advice with a qualified clinician. Carry prescriptions in original packaging and bring enough medicine for delays, together with a copy of the prescription.

Food, water, and heat

Use safe drinking water, wash hands, and choose freshly cooked food. Build heat exposure gradually, drink regularly, and seek shade. Desert travellers need a plan for water, vehicle failure, communication, and evacuation.

Medical care and insurance

Medical services are concentrated in larger cities and may be limited in remote regions. Insurance should cover the whole itinerary, including guided trekking, off-road transport, and emergency evacuation where relevant.

Personal safety

Monitor official travel advice, follow local authorities and guides, avoid demonstrations, protect valuables in crowded places, and do not enter restricted border or military areas.

Verify Before You Travel

Travel requirements can change without notice. Verify current information directly with the nearest Algerian embassy or consulate before making travel arrangements.
